Surfing at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon with Miss Thing!

February 17, 2015 by Raquel Leave a Comment

Each visit to Walt Disney World Resort involves my family making the decision always to try something new and different so that each tour is just as magical as the last. My 11-year-old daughter (at the time) told me that she wanted to learn to surf and my first reaction was “Why?” Of course, her answer was, “because I’ve never done it.” I then tried to search the thickest portion of my brain to figure out how to make this happen for her; then it dawned on me…. Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon has surfing lessons!  After we figured out a date, I made the reservation and during this time, (I cannot lie) I was trying to get her to change her mind, but to no avail, it proved fruitless. J

We got up about 4 AM the morning of her lesson and proceeded to Typhoon Lagoon, and had to wait just a bit because we were earlier than we expected (Fear of being late is the culprit). Once we got checked in, we walked to the surfing area and met the instructors. The instructors were excited and super friendly while making everyone feel comfortable. The surfers made their way to the water and one at a time practiced going over how to stand, and ride the wave safely and adequately. I had nothing to worry about because while my daughter is a good swimmer, there were always two instructors in the water, which was great.

She was able to ride the waves a few times, and she was just over the moon. As you can see, she is a natural… she wiped out a few times, but still a natural :o).

After they were done, the students were presented with a Surftificate of Achievement and were able to take photos with all of the instructors, which made her happy.

She LOVED it, and as a spectator, I enjoyed the whole process. I cannot swim, so I would probably not venture out to do surfing lessons, but if my girl is happy, then it was worth every penny.

Until Next Time!
