That is not a mirage, I actually participated in the runDisney Castaway Cay 5K with my daughter, for the first time. I had heard about the 5K on different social media outlets and knew that I had to take a chance and go for it. My daughter is in great shape so I knew that with her, I would stay motivated. Who wants to look like a total wimp in front of their kid, right? When we arrived on board the Disney Dream Cruise, I immediately checked the Navigator for details about how to sign up. It instructed those interested parties to go to Guest Services to get signed up (it was super easy and quick, by the way). The young man helping us, gave us the tickets and told us to present them to the representatives that would be present when we met the morning of the race.
We met in Evolution on Deck 4 at 8:30 AM the morning we docked at Castaway Cay. I can not lie, my first thought was to go back to the room and take advantage of some additional rest, but alas, I moved forward with it. After the representative gave us the safety pins and bids, they instructed us on what to do next (i.e. how we get to the starting line, and the actual route of the 5K, etc.). Without giving anything away, I really loved the scenery.
We began our journey at the Bicycle Rentals and proceeded from there. While I did not run, I did do “my version” of a brisk walk because it was really hot and humid, but no worries, there were water stations along the route. As my daughter and I walked, I could not help but to think about about fast I could get a spot on the beach and enjoy that view. We entered the last stretch of the race and were greeted by husband who was cheering us on (Dude was playing in the Splash Pad area).
We finished and I immediately made my way to the nearest umbrella with the MOST PERFECT VIEW.
Would I take advantage of this in the future? The answer is Yes! Having said that, I am not sure I would do it on a shorter cruise so I guess that means that I will need to reserve a longer cruise the next time. Hey we all need motivation and that is mine. (*smile*).
Until Next Time!
