Giving the Gift of Literacy While Shopping at Walmart!

August 9, 2016 by Raquel 1 Comment

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and The Coca-Cola Company, Kellogg Company, J.M. Smucker Company, and The HERSHEY’S Company. All opinions are mine alone. #StartSchoolLikeAChampion #CollectiveBias

Just like many families this time of year, we are preparing to head back to school and it is time to begin planning meals, snacks, and schedules. In addition to the back-to-school preparations for families, the United States athletes are preparing to compete in Rio de Janeiro at the 2016 Olympic games. We will be front and center in front of the television to watch the Olympic games as a family. Because of that preparation, Team USA sponsors Coca-Cola®, Kellogg’s®, HERSHEY’S and ©/®J. M. Smucker have teamed up with Scholastic to create the “Walmart-exclusive” “Start School Like a Champion” program. I love that they want my champions to start the year off by providing a free Scholastic book with every participating product purchase at Walmart, and they want the same for your champions, as well.

My children attend our local public schools and for my son, his teachers and school welcome book donations from all avenues. Teachers not only need books for their classrooms libraries, but the school needs books for so many reasons. Our local elementary school is by far the best we have experienced and the entire school is so welcoming and loving that you want to help and provide all that you can. Last year, I provided the school with books that I obtained at conferences and other means, and his teachers were so appreciative. As a school librarian, I understand the need for books for the entire school community. It is for this reason, I plan to donate the books to my son’s school using the “Walmart-exclusive” program to collect one book for every Walmart purchase of participating products. This is easy for me, because they are brands and products we already purchase.
What better way to start the school year than with free books for your child’s school. I want to share with you how easy it is to redeem your Scholastic credits
1. Buy any participating Coca-Cola, HERSHEY’s Kellogg’s or J.M. Smucker’s product at Walmart between 6/29/16 and 9/30/16. Be sure to visit StartSchoolLikeAChampion.com for a full list of participating products.
2. Once you arrive at the StartSchoolLikeAChampion.com website, click to learn more and get signed or logged in.
3. Upload your receipt from Walmart within 30 days of purchase. Be sure to place a star next to the items in question prior to the upload.

4. Choose to order or donate your free books. I will pay-it-forward and gift my son’s school with the books I redeem. It will ask for your school’s information and take you to the order screen.

5. (1)Using your Scholastic Credits, you are ready to place your order (or donation). (2) Choose the Category of books that appeal to the specific age of your children. (3) Choose your books and complete the process.
All of the products can be found easily at your local Walmart. Thankfully, I know where everything is in my local store.

You too can stock up on many of the promotional products and use those credits to order your own set of free Scholastic books or donate them as you see fit. Remember that 1 item equals 1 book. This is the reason that Team USA sponsors created the “Walmart-exclusive” because they know that back-to-school time is important. We will definitely go back during the promotional period to stock up and donate more books.

What will you do with the Scholastic books you obtain?

Until Next Time!

This is such a great program! I love how easy they make it to get free books and pay it forward! Having a great school is definitely a blessing, and I love that you're giving your books to your school. ~ Client
