I am so excited for this movie to premier! When I first experienced the trailer, I had to rewind my television three times, because I wanted the story to continue in that moment. This is a movie that I have to experience with my teen daughter and the phenomenal and intelligent black women that exist in my life.
According to the 20th Century Fox website, “HIDDEN FIGURES” is the untold story of Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe)—brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world”. I was unaware of the book by Margot Lee Shetterly, but I will be reading the story before the movie premiers.
The movie is set to be released in theaters January 6, 2017, but I am keeping my fingers crossed for the possible early release Christmas Day in select theaters. If it is released where I live (Hint: Dallas / Ft. Worth area – Texas), I will be front and center as soon as the theater opens (no matter the release date).
My brown teenage daughter loves math and science and seeing this movie will make her excited for both subjects and what she can accomplish in her future. I want her to know that the sky is the limit and there is NOTHING holding her back!
Come back later for a review once I experience it for myself. (no spoilers, I promise!).
I love the trailer: “Genius has no race – Strength has no gender – Courage has no limit“
Until Next Time!
