I just returned from Wakanda where I saw Black Panther not once but two times in the span of 13 hours. As crazy as it sounds, I was not disappointed. More on that later. In the meantime, I want to take the time to discuss my thoughts on a few of my favorite things from the movie.
2018 Lexus LC 500
First, let’s discuss the new Lexus LC 500! When I first laid eyes on this car, I was intrigued with this vehicle that makes an appearance in the Black Panther movie. Nothing could have prepared me for what my family and me witnessed with this vehicle in the movie. The 2018 Lexus LC 500 is a stunning vehicle that looks to have so many amenities. I was curious so I checked out the Lexus.com website and saw that the starting price is not only comparable to that of other cars in its class, but it can go from 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, and has a 10-speed electronically controlled Direct-Shift transmission (and those are just a small drop in the bucket based on the overall amenities this car possesses). If you are like me, you witnessed the 2018 Lexus LS 500 that was featured in the Super Bowl commercial and it is just as amazing as the Lexus LC.
The action sequences that included this stealth ride were the highlight of the film. Y’all, THIS car was Ah-Mazing! Hey Lexus! If you need me to test drive this fine specimen for a few days…..call me!
Shuri (Letitia Wright)
This young lady is the sister of T’Challa and she was intelligent, technical, able, astute, brainy, bright, brilliant, clever, knowledgeable, and a whole slew of additional words to describe how fascinating she was. In my opinion, I would consider her the brains of the entire operation because of what she creates and the thought process behind everything she does. In the movie she states that, “Just because something works, doesn’t mean it can’t be improved upon“. That statement is so very true because all too often we tend to stop dead in our tracks when something “works”. Those individuals that think outside of the box, always think beyond the box, so it just makes sense. Not only was she innovative, she has a wonderfully fearless young spirit and is in her own right a hero just the same. Also the fact that she is a character that my own daughter can see herself in is priceless! You Go Girl!!!
Check her out:
Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan)
I am trying really really hard not to say this, BUT…….. (with my one closed tight) I think that Killmonger might be a better villain than (dare I say it?) Loki! I know!! I hate I just said it out loud but the performance Michael B. Jordan gave was phenomenal! I don’t know what or who Michael B. Jordan pulled the elements of his character from but he was believable. I was afraid, upset and intrigued all at the same time when he appeared on the screen. Bravo!!!
M’Baku (Winston Duke)
Don’t sleep on Winston Duke as M’Baku… he exhibited true grace and compassion. He did a wonderful job and I’m sure this role was made just for him, it has to be. His character possessed a quiet but mighty disposition especially when he was faced with a choice most would not be able to make under the circumstances (no spoilers). At the end of the day, he showed what it means to be a leader and warrior.
Black Panther Overview
What can I say? This movie gave my family and me all of the feels that one can feel when a movie of the magnitude is presented. As I said earlier, I have seen this movie twice and have not regretted it.
The action sequences are mind-blowing. I am astonished with Ryan Coogler. His directing skills are those of a seasoned director two or three times his age and experience. I believe that he conveyed the vision I believe Stan Lee had for the characters and for Wakanda. The colors and visual effects were stellar. The writing had the perfect mix of humor, seriousness and relatable topics throughout.
All of the characters / actors were perfectly cast and each brought their own spin to each character. They each embodied the characters they played and made the movie the sucess it is. Please do not get me wrong, Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) is the star of this hit film, but since I have discussed him in a previous post, I thought it was best to highlight some of the others. I have no favorites, I love them all!
Marvel, if you are reading this….. Please, please, pretty please bring back everyone, including you know who (no spoilers) for Black Panther II!! To keep myself busy until that time arrives, I have already pre-ordered the Black Panther Steel version DVD set.
Until Next Time!
