Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo befriends his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and meets the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.
A moment of truth, and please don’t hate me…..
I was not very interested in seeing Solo: A Star Wars Story, at first. I know, I know, how dare I say that out loud! Not really any particular reason why, but just was not interested. Well, I got invited to the screening and decided to take my little Star Wars fan and I have never been so happy to be wrong in my perception of any film. I loved it!!
While I was surprisingly impressed with the overall film, can we quickly talk about the women? Each woman made me do think twice about who they truly are … bad-ass heroes. Kudos Ladies!!
- Thandie Newton as “Val”
- Emilia Clarke as “Qi’Ra”
- Phoebe Waller-Bridge as “L3-37”
Each of these women showed true compassion, strength, and sacrifice, which was needed when it came to battle. Surely, the guys wouldn’t survive without them, right?
Paul Bettany as Dryden was superb. I like that sly and sinister look on him. Now, you know who I really think of when I saw him (*cough* Vision). Nonetheless, recognizing him in that light is neither here nor there because he gave a performance that made me dislike his character and that’s a good thing.
I was dazzled by Donald Glover as Lando. His character was charismatic and if you ask me, he was the breakout star of the film. He was so funny and provided some real entertainment the moment he appeared on the screen.
What About The Kids?
Should the kids see it? In my opinion, yes! Can you imagine the first time you experienced Star Wars and how you felt? I can see this jump-starting the love of Star Wars for a whole new generation. While watching the movie, I occasionally looked over at my son and he was grinning the entire movie. Keep in mind that the movie is rated PG-13 when deciding if your own children will see it.
I really liked this film a lot and I am so happy that my initial thoughts were wrong. Earlier, I mentioned specific characters, but each character was essential to the overall success of the film. The action kept me on the edge of my seat but I would have loved to see a bit more (if I’m being honest). In between those scenes, I was able to follow the storyline without hesitation.
In my opinion, this film is a real throwback to the original Star Wars films and that would work for a majority of fans. It does contain some great elements of surprise and those moments will floor you, in my opinion. There were times my son and I both looked at each other and said, “That’s…… Whoa!”
Until Next Time!
