My Ant-Man and The Wasp Review (No Spoilers)

July 4, 2018 by Raquel Leave a Comment

“Maybe you just need someone watching your back, like a partner” ~~Cassie (Ant-Man and The Wasp)

Scott, Hank, Hope, Luis and the gang are back for round 2 with a few more characters in tow! The last time we saw Scott was helping some Avengers in Captain America: Civil War. Now that he is on house arrest he has so much more time to create fun memories with Cassie, right? I don’t know, you’ll have to see the movie when it is released July 6, 2018, to find out.

The Wasp

Can we take a moment to celebrate Hope being a true ambassador of “Girl Power”? I was impressed with her athleticism, her scientific mind, her fearlessness and her overall strong persona. Don’t get me wrong, I love the guys, but she WAS the film for me. She had a strong presence in the first film, but I’m so glad she was back to “save the day”. Well, she didn’t really save the day, but as a woman, she had a big part in it (I’ll take it). Young girls should really see this film because all of the women in this film are intelligent and I can see the inclusion of many STEM elements. I love that Marvel is including women and making them major parts of their movie-making magic.

The Funny?

The comedy was thoroughly present throughout the film. Trust me, I was happy to experience this because I worry about how things will go when it comes to sequels. Luis (Michael Peña), Dave (Tip “T. I.” Harris) and Kurt (David Dastmalchian) did not disappoint and brought the funny throughout their time on the screen. Of course with the addition of Jimmy Woo (Randall Park), the funny level was raised! Was it as funny as the first? Not as funny, but it had many “stop it” moments, for me (which is a good thing).

Kid Friendly?

I believe the film is appropriate for kids because I didn’t feel there were moments that were fully inappropriate. My 10-year-old saw the movie with me and loved it! Having said that, the movie is rated PG-13 so just take that into account before making the decision to see it with your children.

Overall!

The movie started off a bit slow (in my opinion) and I was slightly lost, at first, but it recovered. Overall, the movie was entertaining and brought the action and comedy to every scene. For a sequel, I was happy to see that they continued the storyline and brought back those beloved characters that we grew to love from the first film. Also, I loved the incorporation of the new characters as they brought new life to the film. I won’t spoil the plot, but be sure to pay close attention to each character and stay until the end. Also, it can’t hurt to re-watch the first Ant-Man prior to seeing this one so that you will be ready to rock and roll.
