Wait! What is that? Am I
losing my hair? That is the question I asked myself at the age of 30. I noticed
the thinning at the top of my hair and thought; I am way too young for this.
Then it hit me…. my mother has the same thinness in the same
location on her scalp. Among
women who experience hair thinning, 76% of women start to notice after the age
of 30 (Source: 2014 Gallup). That information speaks volumes and explains it all. It makes
me feel better just knowing that it is more common than I thought,
and I am not alone. Hair thinning is not uncommon. Did you know that up to 42%
of women will notice some hair loss in their lifetime (Source: 2014 Gallup). I
also have sisters and while they have not experienced the thinning in the exact same way,
their hair is noticeably thinner. Contrary to common belief, the
leading cause of hair loss among women is genetics or Heredity Female Pattern
Baldness (90% of cases) and not stress. Heredity hair loss can come from either
the mother’s or father’s side of the family. In my case, I get it from my mother’s
side of the family.

This isn’t fair… I have always had thicker hair and have had great length.
Relaxers and curling irons were a part of my hair regime, and then about 5
years ago, I decided that it was time to make a change. I mean my hair was
thinning, and what other way was there for me to make my hair healthy again? I
did not know if transitioning my hair would work, but I figured it was worth a
try. The transition was difficult and there were times I thought that I would
go back, but I persevered. Now that I am 5 years
strong, the thinning still exists in the same location, but I am on a continued
mission to find styles and products that will work best for me. Now is the best
time to get treatment because if left untreated, thinning hair can worsen over
time and women can lose one-sixth of their hair density in a period of 10
years (actually I am a bit behind).
This is where Women’s ROGAINE® Foam comes in. I have heard great
things about Women’s ROGAINE® and I am excited to give it a try. Women’s
ROGAINE® Foam is a 5% Minoxidil Topical Aerosol that is
the first and only FDA-approved, once daily treatment – morning or night – hair
application hair regrowth product exclusively for women experiencing heredity
hair loss.
You will use a half cap full of Women’s ROGAINE® Foam once a day, and because it is foam, it is easy to apply. I applied it directly to the hair loss section of my scalp, and the foam disappeared rather quickly. The fact that it is a foam comes in handy those days that I might be in a rush to get out of the door on time. What I find interesting is that if it is applied directly to the scalp once a day, every day, most women will start regrowing fuller, thicker hair in as little as 12 weeks. The new hairs come in up to 48% thicker than before based on mean hair strand diameter. This makes me hopeful.
Yes, this is my actual scalp, and thankfully it isn’t worse. This is real for me and it is my hope that this will help and encourage others in some way.
I had to pleasure of interviewing Jill Crosby, Celebrity Hair Stylist, to get
her take on Heredity hair loss and the role it can play when it comes to
thinning hair. Check out my interview with Jill below. I think that you will
find her answers helpful especially for African-American women.
There is so much information out there and we do not have to suffer in silence. To demystify this confusing condition for women, a ROGAINE® brand representative can answer questions at 1-800-764-2473. Also, to learn more about the product and to try it for yourself, the Women’s ROGAINE® Foam website includes helpful information and in addition, you will find a Woman’s ROGAINE® Foam coupon offer that can help you to get started.
I plan to use Women’s ROGAINE® Foam each day because I am interested in finding out what the results could be. I want to try it, not just for me, but for my daughter. If she experiences Heredity hair loss or thinning in the future, I want to be able to share something that could have worked for me.
